The Municipality of Barili is located in the southwestern part of Cebu, approximately 61 kilometers away from the buzzling streets of Cebu, City. It has a population of 74,860 and 14, 972 households as of 2016. Its land area is 11,715 hectares. It is bounded on the south by the municipality of Dumanjug; on the north by the municipality of Aloguinsan; on the east by the city of Carcar and the municipality of Sibonga; and on the west by the Tañon Strait.

It is primarily an agricultural town with corn, rice, and coconut, banana and mangoes as its prime produce giving birth to its festival, the Kaumahan Festival. The Tañon Strait serves as the coastal community’s main source of livelihood and food with barangay Japitan as the fishing village of the town.

The town prides in its rich history, culture, and heritage. Many century-old houses sprawl across the poblacion, like the Casa Pañares, built in 1878 by Don Mariano Pañares; Villa Elliton built in 1914 by Don Miguel Abad; the Santa Ana parish church (now a shrine) begun by Padre Juan Alcoseba in 1887; the Gabaldon Building erected in 1911 at the Barili Central School; the Ricablanca house, presumably the oldest house in the town built by Don Ano Ricablanca, estimated to be 150 years. These structures, among others, are clear indications of the town’s very rich history and heritage.

Barili is also endowed with natural gifts. These gifts include the fascinating 98-meters high Mantayupan Falls, the scenic Sayaw Beach, numerous caves and other natural and man-made attractions. The Mantayupan falls, the island’s highest waterfalls, continues to fascinate local and foreign tourists. The Sayaw beach entices many beachgoers who wish to take a break from the busy metropolis.

These and many other attractions keep Barili on the roadmap of tourism development in the province, with its tourism personnel on the move to further develop and promote the town.

Recently, Barili has taken another important step to advance its current income collection reaching the qualification requirement for a first-class municipality.

This has been made possible by its very active work force in the Treasury Department.

Such achievements are clear manifestations of Barili’s productivity - a fruit of dynamic leadership and supportive citizenry. With the unity of the government officials and the public’s active participation and concern, Barili will surely reach greater heights in terms of development and will continue to be in the years to come.
